Chapter Forty-Two

“Good to hear your voice, Tony, and how are you doing today?” asked Nelson.

“I am glad to be back on British soil. However, my feet have not touched the ground. Too much time for me to be alone and thoughts blowing in and out of my mind have taken a bit of a toll on me. Fortunately, I have been able to still do business and make some money and things look quite proper there. I am considering putting the townhouse on the market. If I ever get out of here the stairs will be too much and I would be better off in a nice flat. I am talking to agents,” announced Tony.

“I was wondering about that and it seems like a good idea,” said Nelson. Tony interrupted: “I would like to see you but do not bring the girls, I do not want them to see me like this.”

“I wasn’t planning to bring the girls. I saw Eric and he said that the girls have made some cards for you in a straw basket made by Millicent. I will bring them in when I come. Madame had the girls and Louise for tea last week.”

“And what was that all about?” asked Tony.

“I really couldn’t say,” said Nelson.

“Madame Boeld always has something going in her screwy head. How dare she fool around with my family when I cannot even confront her,” said Tony angrily.

“I think that it was quite a pleasant little tea party and they all enjoyed themselves.”

“Was Eric there too?”

“No, no, Tony, Eric did not go but he sees Louise and the girls from time to time and he told me about it.”

“Oh, what the hell. When are you planning to come?” asked Tony.

“I will come on Thursday, in the afternoon, as I know you have all that therapy in the morning. I can do some errands for you, check on the townhouse and spend the night there and go back on Friday.”

“Actually, that is a good plan, as I will ask the agent to meet with you on Friday morning at the townhouse and she can take a look around and give me a price to sell.”

“Right. That will work,” agreed Nelson.

“Hey, maybe she could line up a few flats for lease to show you that are suitable for invalids and cripples. I will ring her up and set up something.”

“Very well, Tony. What would you like me to bring when I come?”

“What a loaded question that is, my friend. How about one new leg and a bottle of wine?”

“No problem, let’s talk tomorrow, and keep your spirits up.”

“I surely will. Way up,” Tony said with a sarcastic laugh.

Nelson went to the house kitchen as he always did when he didn’t know what else to do. “Well, good afternoon Pinky, what are you up to?” asked Bertha. “Not much. Madame does not need me on Thursday and Friday so I will drive into London and visit with Tony.”

“Oh, Pinky, we will make some special little cakes and tarts for you to take in for Mr.
